The Effectiveness of Cognitive Therapeutic Exercise on Upper Extremity Function and Activites of Daily living in Stroke Patients

Abstract
Objective: This study was to exam the effects of cognitive therapeutic exercise on upper extremity function and activities of daily living in stroke patients.

Methods: Twelve participants were considering standard of selection, subjects received cognitive therapeutic exercise for 30mins in a day, 5 times in a week, for 4 weeks. Preliminary evaluation was carried out by Fugl-Meyer Assessment (FMA), Modified Barthel Index (MBI). There was 4 weeks of mediation period between preliminary evaluation and post evaluation. Follow up evaluation was also following by end of the mediation.

Results: According to the results of the present study, in the ADL test, there were significant improvement in ADL and upper extremity function by time of measurement.

Conclusion: This study shows that cognitive therapeutic exercise improves upper extremity function and activities of daily living in stroke patients and the improvements were durable. So cognitive therapeutic exercise is considered as a useful way in clinical occupation therapy.
